Constitutional Reform Act 2005 has completed its passage through Parliament and some of its provisions have come into effect.

Rule making

So far, apart from the rule-making provisions only some formal provisions have been implemented; those required to prepare for implementation; and provisions relating to the creation of the new post of President of the Queen's Bench Division, and to changing the Vice-Chancellor's title to Chancellor of the High Court (which does not affect his functions).

3 April 2006

Reform of the office of Lord Chancellor, and judicial appointments and discipline, and related schedules, see chapter on judges.

Supreme Court on target for 2009

Part 3, dealing with the Supreme Court, will be implemented when satisfactory accommodation is available, and that is planned for 2009.

Judges

Many of the changes concern the judiciary and some information will be found on those pages.
